Mrs Miller – Finchley, N3
Our house was beginning to feel a little cramped with all of us living on the first floor – my husband and I, our three kids and an au-pair. We knew the loft had potential so we called in Modern Attics to quote. They quickly came up with a proposal which avoided the need for full planning permission by utilising our permitted development allowance. They drew up all the plans, dealt with the Council, party walls and building regulations. They dealt with all the red tape very efficiently so we were confident that the work would be done in a similar manner. We were not disappointed – the building team were courteous, tidy and hard working. The disruption was kept to manageable levels and this was at its worst towards the end of the work. We are very pleased with end results. We now have a large master bedroom en-suite in the loft which we use and our kids and the au-pair now have the run of the first floor.
Mrs Hannah – Edgware, Middlesex
Once we had our third child, we knew we were going to outgrow our three bedroom semi. We thought about moving but with all the incidental costs and hassle we decided to convert the loft. We wanted to maximise the loft space as we had seen others being converted in our area – we had a full hip to gable and rear dormer in mind but we were prevented from doing this as we had already used our permitted development allowance with a previous kitchen extension. Nevertheless, Modern Attics were creative in their thinking and were able to come up with a design that passed Barnet Council’s planning requirements. The work only took about six weeks and the new room and en-suite shower room is now our eldest son’s room and everyone’s really happy that they’ve got their own rooms. And best of all we avoided all the costs and difficulties of moving and we were able to stay in area we really like.
Mr Simpson – Elstree, Herts
My family and I have moved homes every few years over the last ten years. We have now bought a detached property and have decided on a complete renovation including converting the loft and other extensions. Although the project is being handled by my team of architects, engineers, interior designers etc to advice on all aspects of the work I have consulted Modern Attics to deal specifically with the roof space. The plans are complicated but with Modern Attics expertise we have been able to design a superb living space in the loft and we will be using their tradesmen to undertake the work. I am expecting great results as their service to date has been excellent.
